Halo Infinite is the only game that has been outright confirmed for Project Scarlett, and it's launching alongside it Holiday 2020.

Microsoft is revealing that Halo Infinite will launch alongside the company's next-generation console, codenamed Project Scarlett. It will come to Xbox One and PC as well, as previously announced.

In the new teaser trailer, an engineer is shown bringing Master Chief back to life. 343 industries says Halo Infinite is a "spiritual reboot" of Halo, with new characters and a "perfect starting point for new players" that haven't played the game before.

"This story will mark the beginning of a new chapter and challenge for the Chief, but it will also respect and continue threads that led to this point," says Chris Lee, studio head of Halo Infinite. "If you've never played a Halo game before, this will be a great place to jump into the story."

The developers described the futuristic shooter as a "spiritual reboot." From the sounds of it, 343 is handling Infinite in the same way Sony Santa Monica handled the latest God of War game. While 343 wants to honor the legacy of Master Chief, they're also hoping to create a game where anybody can jump in without feeling intimidated.

A new Slipspace Engine powers Halo Infinite, which 343 Industries has created to power future Halo games and experiences. The team says that Master Chief's new design, which takes inspiration from his previous iterations, is "the highest fidelity we have ever created" thanks to tweaks to both colors and textures.

On top of this, a poll from GDC 2019 revealed about 18% of developers were working on next-gen games.

During its E3 2018 press conference, Bethesda suggested its upcoming game Starfield would be coming to the next console generation, and that The Elder Scrolls VI would launch after that. However, in March 2019, Bethesda confirmed it would not be discussing Starfield or The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2019.

Microsoft has been on a studio buying spree in anticipation of the future console generation. Microsoft announced it had acquired or began building five studios (Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, Playground Games and a new Santa Monica studio) during E3 2018, and revealed during X018 that an additional two studios (Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment) joined the Xbox family. During Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference, Double Fine Productions was officially added to that stable.
