Microsoft has announced that it will invite communities in the United States, United Kingdom and South Korea to test its game streaming service called Project xCloud in October.

Xbox Launching Public Project xCloud Preview Program, Crackdown 3, Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo 5: Guardians and Gears 5, and now the public

Kareem Choudhry, Corporate Vice President - Project xCloud at Microsoft, explained that this "Public preview is a critical phase in our multi-year ambition to deliver game streaming globally at the scale and quality of experience that the gaming community deserves and expects."

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer and other Microsoft employees have already been using Project xCloud and playing such titles as Crackdown 3, Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo 5: Guardians and Gears 5, and now the public will be able to test it out themselves.

From now on, users in the US, UK and South Korea can start signing up. Invitations will be sent over the next few weeks and Microsoft will continue to be open to a growing number of players, although initial participation will be limited.

Halo 5: Guardians, Gears 5, Killer Instinct, and Sea of Thieves will all be available at the start of the Project xCloud public preview, with more games being added in the future. All games will be free during preview, no purchase is required.

To participate, testers need a phone or tablet running Android 6.0 or later, bluetooth 4.0, a Microsoft account, and an Xbox One wireless controller that supports Bluetooth-enabled. The game will be available through the new Microsoft game streaming app, which will be available for Android devices in the coming weeks.

"Our vision for Project xCloud is to empower the gamers of the world to play the games they want, with the people they want, anywhere they want," Choudhry said. "We're building this technology so gamers can decide when and how they play. Customers around the world love the immersive content from Xbox in their homes and we want to bring that experience to all of your mobile devices."

Project xCloud was announced last year and is part of Microsoft's plans for the future that also includes its next-gen console currently titled Project Scarlett.
