EA Sports are expanding their offering in the latest edition of the franchise, with street football becoming an option
FIFA 20 is set for a September release and fans of EA Sports' wildly popular football series are in for a treat with a fresh playing mode: Volta.

What is FIFA 20 Volta?

What are the characteristics of FIFA 20 Volta?

"For millions of people around the world, the streets are their stadium."
Those were the words of Volta producer Jeff Antwi when asked about the inspiration behind the introduction of the new game mode in FIFA 20.
Volta means 'tempo' in Italian, and the Portuguese word for 'return', is EA Sports' latest innovation, which will allow FIFA players to take the game back to the streets, away from the familiar arenas of big clubs.
Current Fulham star & singer/songwriter Chelcee Grimes and former England international Rio Ferdinand quizzed Volta producer Jeff Antwi on the origins of Volta during the E3 stream. "It's a return to street football for the FIFA franchise and we're really excited to be in places where street football is rooted," added Antwi. "Authenticity, creativity and culture are all things we wanted to bring to Volta."

FIFA 20 contains a FIFA Street-style mode named Volta, publisher EA has revealed. The mode is a new direction for the mainline FIFA series, which has until now remained relatively realistic and straightforward in its execution. "We considered OTP early on," Prior says. "We couldn't fit that in at the first kick of the can. It is something we're aware of, it is something we're looking to bring, but it's not something we have right now." Real teams will be available in Volta: While Volta will be primarily based around customizable avatars, it will also include 3v3 games featuring real teams.

Players who learn to dribble on Volta may gain an advantage in the 11-a-side game as they can showcase their flair and tricks with the new dribbling system on FIFA 20.

Volta "takes football back to the streets with the authentic culture, creativity, and style of the small-sided game," EA says. It appears to be an exclusively small-sided match mode, meaning you'll play with teams of between three and five, as opposed to the regulation 11.

Players will also be able to play around the world and in various pitches, with street football having different rules to the Futsal game settings. A Tokyo rooftop, London cage and Amsterdam underpass are just three of the venues that have been mentioned.

So far, we know that players can customise their own characters from their appearance to a wide range of outfits as there is no uniform on the street.

They can also play as current fully licensed teams and individuals bringing the stars of today into the pitches around the world. Update: We now know FIFA 20's Volta Mode is only coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions--the Nintendo Switch edition of FIFA will not receive "any of the big new features," EA says. Original story follows.
