Historical background of World of Warships

In 1937, top U.S. navy officials were pressured and upset by Japanese intelligence about the construction of the yamato class super battleships. According to information gleaned by American, British and French intelligence agents, the new Japanese battleship will have a displacement of more than 35,000 tons and an artillery calibre larger than the 356 millimeters set out in the second London naval treaty of 1936, to which Japan is not a signatory. In response, the three prospective Allies invoked the treaty's automatic adjustment clause: and in this case took emergency measures: raising the limit on warships to 45,000 tonnes and 406mm.

After the automatic adjustment clause went into effect, as we see today, the United States finally accepted modern iawa-class fast battle-ships equipped with nine 406 mm guns. The treaty restrictions were dropped immediately after the war began, but plans to develop a 457mm gun were eventually scrapped by changes in naval warfare tactics caused by the emergence of aircraft carriers.

Georgia, the U.S. battleship that represented the larger, more powerful competition between the U.S. and Japanese warships during world war ii. Now you can experience a main gun 457 mm caliber that is comparable to the yamato and can match the speed of the powerful battleship Iowa.

Main gun: the 457mm / 47mk 1 gun is spread among three twin turrets: two front and one back.

Although the caliber gun was never actually used on a U.S. warship, the 457-millimeter model was developed and used to test new shells during the construction of the last iva-class battleships. Today, only one such gun remains in storage at dahlgren naval base in Virginia.
