SONY's next-generation PlayStation 5 doesn't even exist yet, but that hasn't stopped the company from fighting for a trademark for its future console. As is customary, SONY applied for trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10 in Japan. What does PS10 look like? Will we still play games with the traditional DualShock controller? Obviously, these are palceholder-type trademarks that guarantee the future of the brand, not that the actual hardware is in development. That doesn't mean SONY is already working on a new system.

While it's not surprising to see SONY keep its name, Microsoft made an interesting choice to move from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One. So far, Microsoft hasn't released their name on the platform, except for the code name "Project Scarlett."

Now that SONY is fully focused on the PlayStation 5, it's not even in the final stages. Developers are still working hard to push the PS5 development kit to the limit to emulate the final console hardware. Although we now know that SONY is preparing to release the PlayStation 5, it may have taken a long time to decide on the name. In fact, it looks like SONY will keep up the naming trend at least until the PlayStation 10.

The PlayStation 5 will go on sale in December 2020, but a price has not been set, sources said. SONY is expected to release the PS5 at a special event in February 2020.
