Anthem's pre-Cataclysm challenges are live now
The Anthem 'Pre-Cataclysm' challenges are available to play in Freeplay mode now, where you can collect crystals or kill crystallized enemies. In the following, we will introduce the Cataclysm event in details.
Last we heard about Anthem, select players were getting their hands on an early build of its first big in-game event, The Cataclysm, via a number of Public Test Servers on PC, and the first reactions haven't been great. One month later, and BioWare seems to finally be rolling out that update across the game at large, as those still playing on PC and console have begun to notice a number of surprise developments across Anthem's open world.
Bioware hasn't yet specified, but it's assumed these challenges are part of the two week "pre-Cataclysm" period before the event starts in full force. Once the storm really comes, there will be a new area, new legendary weapons, and more. New Anthem stuff in general is exciting, but the challenges themselves don’t look particularly thrilling. This imgur thread put together by the Anthem subreddit shows the details of each challenge. The fans sticking around hope Bioware will deliver with the full Cataclysm event, but many have already given up on Anthem. Last month, Steven talked about how Anthem feels hopeless in its current state. "In four months BioWare has only managed to address some of Anthem's most broken designs, but we're still left with a shooter that is woefully boring and sparse," he said. "If BioWare really wants to save Anthem, it needs to give up on its half-assed post-launch roadmap, start over from scratch, and build something actually worth saving."
Players who complete these challenges will earn some coin and some limited-time decals to use on their javelins. All in all, not a massive addition to the game, but these are supposedly just a two-week prelude to the main event, the Cataclysm. New loot drops are not live in the game yet, so this probably isn't the "yes it's time to get back to Anthem" moment people have been looking for.
