World Of Warcraft Classic Is Getting Free Character Moves To Help Queue Times

Before World of Warcraft Classic was released, players could choose their name and where they wanted to go. But after WoW Classic officially launched in the Americas starting at 3 p.m. PT on Aug. 26, huge Numbers of players flocked to the massively multiplayer role-playing game once again. However, players who try to log in immediately may find themselves waiting. As the release date approaches, it's clear that without any changes, some areas will be so densely populated that players will have to wait in long lines to get in. But long queue times to play the game have upset many players, and that in turn caused developer Blizzard Entertainment to make some adjustments.

To remedy this problem, The company already increased the number of people allowed to play on a server and will soon allow players to transfer their characters from the higher-populated servers to another with fewer people. Some World of Warcraft Classic players in select realms are getting the chance to jump to a new home soon as Blizzard looks to depopulate some of the busier realms. Blizzard urges people to consider switching to different realms to avoid these login times, but even after the warning, players are still facing thousands of login queues waiting to enter the game.

To keep that momentum going and to alleviate any concerns over packed realms and long queue times, Blizard is working on free character moves soon. On Tuesday, Blizzard posted about the free character moves on the WoW Classic forums. 

"We've tried to prioritize the long-term health of our realm communities, recognizing that if we undershot the mark in terms of launch servers, we could move quickly to add additional realms in the opening hours," "We are working to open our Free Character Move service for select WoW Classic realms in the coming days," Blizzard said on the World of Warcraft forums. "When free character moves become available from one of the most highly-populated realms, players will see the option to initialize a free character move on either the character select screen or the queue screen of the realm."

The developer says the option will be available in the coming days for select realms at no charge. Before players try to make the move, they should know that they'll have to make sure their character is allowed to do so. If you want to take advantage of it, make sure you have no mail, you're not a guild leader, or have active auctions or bids. So if you're fed up with busy queues and need a change, you'll have to take care of those potential prohibitors first.
